Moving to London..

November 16, 2018

Hi there!

I am writing this personal post I have been moving to London for two months. It has been a roller coaster ride, I would say. Until 3-4 months ago I was still in a 50:50 mode, whether I should go (back) to the UK or not. It was the hardest decision but my parents were highly encouraging me to go back. So here I am, pursuing my degree in MA Global Media and Postnational Communication in SOAS University of London (If you are all wondering).

The first month here has been rough. I have to find my own flat here so I decided to live with my friend who is already residing in London. Finding a flat in London is not easy and not really hard either. Now I am already living in my new flat, 20 minutes away from my campus by tube. I really love it tho, it is small and feels so homey. I also like the surrounding outside, the neighbourhood is awesome! because it is autumn, I can see so many beautiful trees with autumn-coloured leaves when I wake up through my window <3 and also so many beautiful fallen leaves on my way to school.

My school itself located in a very centre of London. It is not a big campus but very diverse. I don't want to talk about my school a lot since it will be a long story. Anyway, I love my uni's library so much, I can spend the whole day there. Speaking of school, studying as a master student is very intense. Lots of reading and they are like the hardest reading I have ever read :/ and there are tons of assignment as well. To be honest, I am a bit stressed about it but at the same time, I am also enjoying every bit of the process. I already expected that getting a master degree is not an easy task, so yeah...

Anyway, if you are curious about what is like living in London... Well, I could say that it is so intense as well. Everything is in a rush. The tubes, buses, people, everything. It is like living in Jakarta, to be honest, but without the heat. I mean, everything happens in a very fast-paced. I always spend most of my days outside (except if I don't have any class), commuting, studying, classes, running errands etc. I also need to be really independent in terms of any domestic things. For example, I have to know how to read my electricity meters, something that I never knew before when I was in Indo. I have to cook for my self because ordering food here can be really expensive (yes, London is mad expensive!) and I have to bring two bottles of 5L mineral bottles all by my self. Yes, by walking.

I can say that here in London, even I have just been here for 2 months, I have learnt so many things already and I believe that more to come. I am so far away from my family and close friends, which means that I have to do everything by my self. Is this what we call adulting? But I am so grateful that God has given me a chance to grow in this very vibrant city. There are so many people want to visit this place and the fact that I am currently living here as a student is something that I will always cherish on. Yes, bad things sometimes happen, but there are also tons of good things that happen too!

I have not explored London that much yet, but I am going to do it soon (after I finish my assignments) hahaha.

Ok, enough with the curcol.

Have a good day,
cheers!
