Euro Winter Trip: Budapest, Hungary

Februari 02, 2017

25th of December, at night.

We were waiting for our train to Budapest. It scheduled probably at 8 pm. So we only spent our time in McD Berlin hbf. During that time, I found my eternal love which is this...

I swear to God they have the.best.croissant.ever.
beneran seenak itu, padahal cuma plain croissant doang. I mean like I have eaten so many good croissants in the UK but this Le fuckin Crobag beats them all.

Okay I need to stop. So we were going to Budapest by train because it was cheaper than plane tickets at that time. It was a long journey basically because we had to spend 12 hours hahahaha but we were using the night train so it was okay. By the way, travelling in Europe by train is also a good option, because you can see many beautiful views from countrysides across Europe. We were using the DB (stands for Deutsche Bahn) the Deutsch's trains system (?). I think they are quite popular tho, because I saw many people using it, especially the ones who want to experience Europe night train. So apparently, my compartment for sleep was the cheapest one hahaha it was around 40 Euro and we had to sleep with 6 people. And the best thing is..... I was the only girl in my compartment, great. There is a 2 people compartment, but the price is much higher. I think it is around 100 lollll because we are broke students / backpacker, we sticked to the cheapest one. The compartment wasn't so bad to be honest. I slept at the top bed which was really convenient. We had the best sleep ever during our trip lol dunno why, maybe because the train was basically moving right, you know you always feel sleepy when you are in a car? so basically it is the same thing, but this, with bed and blanket yeah.

nongkrong dulu di gerbong biasa

the situation inside the compartment HAHAHAHA

morning view, East Europe countrysides #gakeliatan

After arrived in Keleti Central Station, we went straightly to our apartment in Central Budapest. My two Japanese friends already waited for us because they already arrived the day before. The apartment was so cozy and comfy and cheap af. Basically everything is cheap in Budapest (compare to western Europe).

This basically reminds me of flat-flat yang ada di telenovela LOL

I forgot to take picture of our room but it was the nicest room during this entire trip:')

On our first day, we explored some of main attractions in Budapest. Our main destination was of course the well-known Hungarian Parliament. It is so close to our apartment we only walked for 10 minutes to get there.

The building itself is so huge. I love every single detail of its architectural. It has a very decent (or legit) Gothic and Renaissance Revival style. Who doesn't love this kind of classic old building? It is so beautiful! And this parliament also considered as one of the oldest legislative building in Europe.

Charles Bridge

After walked through the bridge, we decide to have lunch in a random Korean restaurant. This was the stupid decision ever because it was not that good and the price was not cheap. Then, we decided to go to Matthias church, which is a famous Catholic Cathedral located in front of Fisherman Bastion. This cathedral is so beautiful although we need quite much effort to get there (We need to hike because its location is quite hilly and lots of stairs to climb up). But It was worth it!

This Cathedral is of course designed with typical Eastern Europe Gothic style architecture. Stunning! (We need to pay tho, it was only 1000 HUF (Hungarian Forint, yes they don't use Euro) for students!

Sok2an

The Fisherman Bastion. This place is highly recommended by people who had visited Budapest. I finally know why! This is the place where you can see the best view of Budapest! Devastating, Magnificent, Gorgeous, you name it.

Took bunch of photos because it was too beautiful I can't

Having satisfying ourselves by the view, we went down from the hill and decide to wait until sunset in front of the Parliament building. It was so freezing hhhhhhhh but the scenery is worth to wait!

I honestly was thinking about what should I have for dinner that night hahahhaa #foreverhungry

All taken by Faidil

I swear I took this photo by myself!

On the second day, Faidil flew back to Hamburg because he had to study lol he had exams in the beginning of January. For the second day, I did not remember what exactly we did because it was not that important. I think because the weather was no that good we decided to just have lunch and dinner outside. The third day, we planned to enter the Parliament building, but apparently it was still close due to the Christmas holiday or because it was full ( I couldn't remember again LOL I'm so forgetful).

On that day, it was so fuckin windy. Beneran kenceng banget, kita literally kayak sampe mundur gitu saking kencengnya. ini ga lebay. sampe jalannya sambil meringis-ringis karena anginnya kenceng terus dingin banget lagi. bendera di tiang aja sampe kayak mau robek gitu.

Because we couldn't join the tour inside the parliament, we decided to go the Christmas Market in front of St. Stepehen's Basilica. It is located quite close to our apartment. We tried the Hungarian traditional food, Langos. Basically it is just a kind of bread with toppings, just like pizza, but with thick dough and it is very nice!!

Look at those cheese <3

St. Stephen's Basilica

The main christmas tree in front of the cathedral

Actually we planned to go to Buda Castle, but because the weather was so bad (extremely windy and rainy) so we decided to to go inside this St. Stephen Basilica which is free for visitor HAHAHA. Nothing was really special aside its (again) architectural. We only sat for 10 minutes watching people praying inside LOL so gaje.

It is never complete when we visit a new place without trying its local delicacy! So Langos is just a street food. If you want something for lunch or dinner with authentic Hungarian-style food, this is the place. This restaurant is highly recommended by local tho, you can find it in Lonely Planet's page too! Its name is Belvárosi Disznótoros.
This is a butcher-caterer type of restaurant. You choose the meat with any marinated you fancy, and the they will cook it for you. You might also wan to choose your side dish (rice, chips, salad, etc.). This restaurant is famous among the local and tourist, you might find it really crowded in a lunch time but it's not a problem at all because everything is so cheap! I remember I ordered grilled chicken, with rice, salad and bottled water and I only paid around 1500 HUF (which is 5 Euro, more or less!). It is a big deal, considering that you are in Europe, for that complete meal, you might need to pay more! So if you go to Budapest, make sure this place is on your list!

What we did for the last day in Budapest was just eating as long as i can remember LOL. I cannot really say about the transportation here because we only walked around the centre, because our apartment was located in very a strategic area. Budapest is totally one of the city that worth to visit in Europe. Despite its beauty, it is also very cheap comparing to other European country. You can go to Budapest by plane or train, but if you are really on budget, you can use bus!

The next post will be my experience in Brussels (We actually did nothing there except eating LOL). See ya in the next post!
