Euro Winter Trip: Brussel, Belgium

Mei 04, 2017

28th December, early morning

'cause we had the earliest flight at that day, we had to wake up at 2 am and went to the Airport at 3. I barely remember what happened that day to be honest, but one thing that I remembered that we had to wait to board the plane in outdoor area. It was -1 if I'm not mistaken. Flight form Budapest to Brussels was only an hour. We managed to sleep because it was really early at that time. When we arrived at Charleroi, we had to wait the bus that would take us to the city. Unfortunately at that time, the bus stops were under renovation. Therefore, we need to wait outside. We thought that weather in Belgium would be much warmer than UK, but in reality it was way colder. So basically we waited for the bus outside for 30 minutes in -3 degree celsius situation. And it was so foggy you barely saw anything HAHAHA.

From Charleroi airport to Brussels City Centre is only 30-45 minutes by bus. I forgot how much we paid for the ticket, I think it was around 15-20 Euro?. But anyway, after arrived in Brussels Midi Station, we managed to grabbed Uber and then we went straight to our hotel.
Actually we didn't do much in Brussels though. We literally just ate and sleep. HAHAHAHAHA
There are not much things to do in Brussels, so we just strolled around City Centre and bought chocolates from a chocolate shop which was recommended by our friend (which was amazingly good although most of them are pricy). If you are planning to visit Belgium, make sure to buy some chocolates there. The chocolate shop name is Cafe Tasse, located in City Centre of Brussels.

we bought plenty boxes because they are that good. There are some interesting flavours such as dark chocolate with orange peel and lemon peel which taste amazing. They also have dried mango flavour too!.

Had lunch in famous restaurant in Brussels called de Leon. Apparently, Mussels dish is very popular in Belgium, and this restaurant is one of the best. My Japanese friends were so keen to do all the research regarding what and where to eat in Brussels. I was just following them cz well Brussels is their destination choice. Anyway these are garlic Mussels and cheese Mussels which taste amazing T_T. Best food we had in Brussels.

and of course you have to get yourself lots of waffles they have the best ones in the world. who doesn't know the infamous Belgian Waffle?

THIS. WAS. HEAVEN.
BEST.WAFFLE.I.HAVE.EVER.TRIED
I'M SORRY BUT THE TASTE WAS INEXPLICABLE

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL SHOT OF THIS PRETTY THINGS

For dinner we just ate in some random (tourist) restaurant in city centre LOL. nothing special but my friend Sayuri had a humongous bowl of seafood pasta by herself. Me and Takuya were laughing at her by looking how much food she could indulge in her stomach HAHAHA

Second day. We went to city centre again to have Belgian fritters. It is also traditional food in Belgium. Fritters basically is just a french fries? but with nicer texture? I don't know. But they serve it with sauces of your choice. They have curry sauce which I chose and taste nice! must try!

Visited Grand Place or Grote Markt which is one of Brussels' main tourist attraction. It is basically a central square of the city. We also went to Manneken Pis which is a statue of a boy who is urinating. We didn't take a photo because the statue itself is so small and there were bunch of Asian tourists so we just saw and left HAHAHAHA. All we did were just strolling around the shops there.

Apparently this statue is famous too. There is a myth said that if you touch it, you will be happy. I did touch it though, just in case.

Prettiest and yummiest waffle from Maison Dandoy <3 This shop is famous for their waffle and biscuits. Love their waffle so much. Price is a little bit above the average but it is so worth it! Even the whipped cream tastes heavenly. If you go to Brussels, make sure to pay a visit!

Happy kids :D

Then we bought Godiva's Chocolate covered strawberry

Never ending waffle shot

Last dinner in Brussels.
Ok I forgot the name of the dish.

LOL
We had our last dinner in small restaurants which is very famous for their beef stew. I forgot the restaurant's name I'm so sorry because again, I am not the one who was in charge to browse all the good places to eat in Brussels. One that I remember is we waited outside the restaurant to be seated for around 45 minutes, and it was like 1 degree Celsius. So we were freezing but I think it was worth it? tho the food was not my cup of tea.

the next morning we went straight to Brussels Midi Station to take our train back to the UK. It was my first time riding underwater train (?). But it was just dark inside the tunnel LOL. At that time it the train (Eurostar) was full so we sat in separated seats. It takes maybe 2 hours or so to reach London which is in London St. Pancras to be exact. After that we went straight to Oxford by bus like finally. So this is the end of my Euro Trip with my friends. We celebrated new year in London and spent the rest of our holiday by doing our own business. I myself went to Germany (again) to visit my friend Adini who is studying there. So I will write about my trip to Cologne soon! See ya!
